Doors​

Fortunately there was a name engraved on the lock.  I learned that in 1878 Niles and Son of Chicago patented a completely new design for doorknobs, in which the knob and spindle are integrated. Type your paragraph here.

In preparation for replacing  the ugly modern doorknobs on the two side doors, I decided to study the original front door entry set, and found something puzzling.T

When I saw the clumsy soldering job on the doorknob, I assumed that the screw holding the kob onto the spindle had been obscured. I didn't know how I could remove the knobs, but I jiggled them until they came loose. There was no spindle!ph here.

I pulled out the mortise lock and opened it up.  It didn't look like any pictures I had seen of mortise locks. Instead of a diamond-shaped opening for the spindle, there was a large semicircular opening.
